Often, and espec. in IT contexts, Merker is flag or tag.

You could use tag(Merker), tag number (Merkzahl), tag word (Merkerwort). Google will yield references for both tag word and tag number.
"Indicator" might be yet another option (again, Google will yield references fior both indicator word and indicator number), but my preference would be "tag".
