German term or phrase: Zentriersteg
In a text about the accommodating lens or IOL (intraocular lens):

...dieser Typ IOL mit knickbaren Zentrierstegen.."

haptics
Explanation:
I have done a lot of interpreting work for a major IOL manufacturer (including factory tours). The little handles (or "loops") with which the IOL is centered in the eye are called haptics. (One reference, listed below, also uses "haptic loop").

There are 2 types of IOLs: single piece (the haptics are cut from the same material as the lens, the lens itself is foldable - in fact, I have one sitting on my desk), or three piece (the haptics are laser-welded to the edges of the lens).

No hits on IOL +Zentriersteg/e/n, this does seem to be a rather unusual term. German ophthalmologists usually refer to "Haptiken". It is understood that the haptics are used to center the IOL.

... the soft acrylic haptics, centering of the SA30AL after ... is excellent. The trailing haptic would often fold over ... appearance of the IOL is normal and acceptable ...

Ophthalmologists are traditionally concerned about damaging the haptic loops during implantation of three-piece lenses. When using a forceps, there's always a possibility of crimping the loop while passing through a small incision.
"A damaged, asymmetric loop can cause the IOL to be decentered," said Jules Stein Eye Institute cataract surgeon Samuel Masket, MD. "Explantation is often necessary because a loop is completely damaged."
Marshalltown, Iowa ophthalmologist Jim Davison, MD, is particularly impressed with the AcrySof's haptics and their ability to maintain compression force over time. He likes the fact that after a few seconds, the haptics, which are folded during insertion, spread out and hold very tightly to the capsule walls while centering the optic with the surgeon's guidance.
Dr. Davison refers to this as "active centration."
"If you bend the haptic, it will always return to its original position," he said. "Where you leave it is where it's going to stay. Other lenses are very much passively centered."

Many thanks for the clear explanation and website references. The German "Steg" is what really threw me, with so many different meanings.

Appreciate your help very much.

Explanation:
After Sven's comment, i had second thoughts, too.

Please have a look at the websites below. The "Steg" is the two C- or S-shaped parts at the periphery of the lens.
