shuttle thrower Explanation: Schütze is the shuttle. The weaving process typically involves stepping on the proper treadle or treadles to raise the shafts, then you throw the shuttle from left to right /right to left, release the treddle, beat the weft into place, and repeat. When weaving on a very wide loom, the shuttle is operated by a mechanical pull device, because your arms wouldn't be long enough to reach from one end to the fabric to the other ( it's called a fly shuttle system). I imagine this is the function the boy would have had. P.S. I have a loom and used to weave a lot! |
