German term or phrase: Gehobene Mittelklasse
What is the "official" term for hotels of this category?

The existing answer - KudoZ 296801: "quality mid-range" - sounds good, but is probably unofficial. (Where are all you Michelin testers out there?!)

Please don't forget URL proofs (ideally a list of hotel classes/categories).

Many thanks.

'upscale hotel' would be another option

"Upper middle class" is a term I would ascribe to a social group rather than a hotel. Thanks anyway.

I confess I am not 100% convinced - rather because I would talk in stars

I'm afraid I share your lack of conviction, and - unfortunately for me - no star rating is given since the text merely talks about a type of hotel.

Explanation:
Well, here is a list for you. I suppose "4 star" would also be an option, although in German that is usually combined with Stern oder das englische Star, right?

Since you already rejected, upper-middle class, I'm very unsure - since I would have said that too. Isn't gehobene Mittelklasse also usually a social class in Germany? Or is this term also specifically used in the hotel industry there?

This list looks nice however, perhaps it will suit your needs.

3-star/ 4-star / luxury

Explanation:

"Gehobene Mittelklasse 3-4 Sterne Hotels"

Hotels in the English-speaking world tend more to use the star system. It's around this level that they start just saying (albeit misleadingly) "luxury hotel" (as opposed to "deluxe" = 5- or 6-star places), aware that nobody could take them to court on that claim ...
If they're in the Michelin guide, then you can simply specify their ranking, if not: call them a 3- or 4-star hotel according to the context/perspective.
After all: one (marketing) man's overnight paradise is someone else's overpriced dump!

I'd offer "mid-luxury", but it likewise sounds a tad unnatural ...
