German term or phrase: Outdoor-Touristen
I feel like there out to be a simple translation for this horrible piece of denglish, but I can't put my finger on it. It's not just adventurous types because it also includes golf, fishing etc. The text is from a travel book about Patagonia. TIA for any help.

English translation:outdoor enthusiasts
Explanation:
I think this is what we'd actually call them. No real need for the "touriust" bit.

I suppose "recreational tourists" would also be an option.

Explanation:
what's wrong with "outdoor tourists" (in ENGLISH!)?
In German it's a different story...

-> thx, Tanja, but I should have stated it as answer, not as comment :-(

agree  Lancashireman: I also like 'outdoor enthusiasts'. 'Outdoor types' might also fit.

neutral  Francis Lee (X): As you see this as a race, bear in mind that if you'd a) posted a new answer b) bothered to find and post a reference, this would've taken more time.

disagree  Lancashireman: Best not to click on CL5 because this means 'Highest - I am sure'. Unfortunately this answer refers to 'attractions' rather than the people who visit them. (I thought that Google skims had been banned?)

-> That's bad manners, Günther. It was the first thing that occured to me - at a time when the only thing you had written was "outdoor tourist". Plus I at least took the time (!) to provide a reference. Surely it's about reasoning, not a race?

hardy tourists

Explanation:
This version keeps the 'tourists' but ditches the problematic 'outdoors'
