German to English translations [PRO]
Marketing - Tourism & Travel / country guest house
German term or phrase: Hier kommt das altehrwürdige Wort Sommerfrische voll zu seinem Recht.
Text type: Online tourist information about a guest house in one of Austria's wine regions.

If you click on "Service", you can read the following:
"Das alterwürdige Wort **Sommerfrische** kommt in [name of the house] voll zu seinem Recht. Mit ein Grund ist die komfortable Haushalts-Ausstattung: Von [...] über [...] bis hin zu [...] – alles ist vorhanden. Und während [name of ficticious guests] ihrem Müßiggang frönen, deckt [name of the "Perle"] unbemerkt wie von Feenhand das köstliche Frühstück unter freiem Himmel. So macht Urlaub wirklich Spaß."

My working translation: "The comfortable fittings are one of the reasons why the time-honoured term "summer retreat" comes fully into its own at [...]. Everything is available from [...] to [...]"

Is it a good idea to replace "Sommerfrische" with "sommer retreat"? Can anyone think of a way to elegantly rewrite this? Many thanks in advance.

Where the old-world phenomenon of Sommerfrische takes on new meaning....
Explanation:
Or something like the above....Sommerfrische is such a lovely, unique word that I would try to write it into the text and explain it briefly. FYI, I believe Sommerfrische specifically refers to an extended summer stay in a rural environment as opposed to the other popular mode of 19th century travel, namely cultural travel to cities to view museums and monuments......

summer getaway

Explanation:
a bit punchier than "summer retreat"

I would turn it around completely "where the term 'summer getaway' takes on a whole new meaning", for example, but that is just a cultural thing: tried and true vs new and exciting.

Asker: Thanks a lot, Paul. I included "take on a whole new meaning" in my translation. Unfortunately, I can't distribute the points.

agree  RegineMac: "takes on a whole new meaning" seems to contradict the original (kommt voll zu seinem Recht). How about something like "This is the summer getaway you've always dreamed of"?

This is the perfect summer retreat

Explanation:
You can't translate this literally - you need to find a completely different way of saying it. Also, don't use the word "fittings" - this refers specifically to things like lightswitches

Asker: They are talking about trivial things such as coffee machines, fridges, dishwashers, TVs, towels, bedclothes, etc. But thanks for your comment!

Asker: Thanks for your help, philgoddard. I opted for comibining your and Susan's suggestions. Unfortunately, I can't distribute the points.

agree  hazmatgerman: Also similar to the summer retreats populated in India during British rule, to escape from the sweltering heat further down.

where ....... is experienced as fully justified (or manifests itself as ....)

Explanation:
die Redewendung < kommt zu seinem Recht > scheint mir hier eher unangebracht. Man will ausdrücken, dass dem Sinn des Wortes < Sommerfrische> hier in jeder Hinsicht Genüge getan wird, indem sich seine Bezeichnung als vollkommen gerechtfertigt erweist. Sommerfrische würde ich mit or summer retreat > übersettzen

so far, I didnt comment on . Using for words I consider a bit risky. I couldnt find it backed by any of the line dictionaries and as far as I remember, it is primarily used for customs, traditions, institutions and such like. venerable is even less suitable for the present text. I would rather resort to something like

I don't think that a literal translation is the best option here. Alles Gute:)
