German term or phrase:Hier kommt das altehrwürdige Wort Sommerfrische voll zu seinem Recht.
Text type: Online tourist information about a guest house in one of Austria's wine regions.
If you click on "Service", you can read the following:
"Das alterwürdige Wort **Sommerfrische** kommt in [name of the house] voll zu seinem Recht. Mit ein Grund ist die komfortable Haushalts-Ausstattung: Von [...] über [...] bis hin zu [...] – alles ist vorhanden. Und während [name of ficticious guests] ihrem Müßiggang frönen, deckt [name of the "Perle"] unbemerkt wie von Feenhand das köstliche Frühstück unter freiem Himmel. So macht Urlaub wirklich Spaß."
My working translation: "The comfortable fittings are one of the reasons why the time-honoured term "summer retreat" comes fully into its own at [...]. Everything is available from [...] to [...]"
Is it a good idea to replace "Sommerfrische" with "sommer retreat"? Can anyone think of a way to elegantly rewrite this? Many thanks in advance.
Explanation: Or something like the above....Sommerfrische is such a lovely, unique word that I would try to write it into the text and explain it briefly. FYI, I believe Sommerfrische specifically refers to an extended summer stay in a rural environment as opposed to the other popular mode of 19th century travel, namely cultural travel to cities to view museums and monuments......
Referring to the latest discussion entry related to Wikipedia´s definition of Sommerfrische (by ??? )which, as I just discovered, does not as yet figure in this column, I should like to point out that - though being termed as old fashioned (or obsolete) it continues being widely used as an absolutely up to date word.In any case its old fashioned English counterpart is summer retreat as already pointed out by philipg and myself.
sorry, the same technical problem occurred once more. I´ll try to add what is indispensable: Using time-honoured / online dict. / sthg.like existing for a long time, a long standing word / a word of long standing or of a long history.
I must repeat what I said under in this column since when being posted, my comments got distorted in a terrible way. Here it is again, hopefully correct this time:so far, I didnt comment on . Using
Actually, I was not looking for "komfortable Ausstattung", but for: "Das altehrwürdige Wort Sommerfrische kommt voll zu seinem Recht". But thanks for your remark. "Convenient furnishings" might work better.
I know it's not the question being asked, but komfortabel could do with looking at too - it's often a false friend, and you can hardly have "comfortable" fridges and coffee machines (I agree with philipg about "fittings"). Would make an interesting question in its own right.

summer getaway
Explanation: a bit punchier than "summer retreat"
I would turn it around completely "where the term 'summer getaway' takes on a whole new meaning", for example, but that is just a cultural thing: tried and true vs new and exciting.

Asker: Thanks a lot, Paul. I included "take on a whole new meaning" in my translation. Unfortunately, I can't distribute the points.
