And just for the record, pretty much the only claim to fame of Droitwich Spa (where I live), in the middle of England, is its underground brine lakes - mined since Roman times - and its brine baths, which nearly got it on an equal footing with Leamington, Cheltenham and the like in Victorian times; and which are hopefully shortly to be redeveloped into a modern spa resort - although I don't think Badgastein et al will be quaking in their boots. Still, I have to stick up for brine - it's not just for tuna, but good for arthritis too!

Brine doesn't have any negative connotations to me. It actually sounds nice, like swimming in the sea. Lesley: you can't say "sole bath" - it's not English.

"Country-style pork ribs start with a brine bath". This is exactly the association I have when I read "brine bath". I would opt for "salt water bath" or "salt water spa" (domed or not).

While probably technically correct, brine sounds really gross to me, like brine shrimp or pickling. I would strongly urge you to say saltwater bath or some variation thereof. Compare the Google hits too - saltwater bath and saltwater spa are clearly more common, while the same phrases with brine are typical for translated sites from Austria, Poland, etc.

This one - http://www.woerglerwasserwelt.at/index.php?mainPid=3&c=pageI... - just down the road from me (in fact I've been in it - very relaxing) calls it a "sole bath" (as do several other UK sites) which you may prefer to use instead of "brine" which, to me, conjures up images of tinned tuna :-)

yes I had noticed that it had been left as 'Soledom' in quite a few texts but I was convinced there was a proper English term...I had thought it may e to do with "salt"...but "brine" was obviously what I was looking for :-)

I think Lesley has the answer, but what a good question!
I learned a couple of interesting but irrelevant things:
Most translators who come across this word are too lazy to research it, so they leave it as it is.
There are lots of sites with the text written backwards, so the Spanish word "modelos" keeps coming up. I wonder why this is.

Whether it's a proper noun or not, it needs to be translated. As it stands, it will mean nothing to English speakers.

well i thought that, but then seeing as there seems to be a bridge between all the various elements of the sauna, I assumed there must be an English equivalent for Soledom as there is for the other items mentiones
