"In dem Neubau soll die graphische Sammlung präsentiert und aufbewahrt werden, es wird einen Vorlegeraum geben, in dem sich Besucher einzelne Grafiken heraussuchen lassen und anschauen können"

About a museum which is to house a graphic arts collection. I know there is an exhibition gallery and then a "Vorlegeraum". Does the Vorlege come from vorlegen, to submit, show? A presentatio room where visitors comes and choose indivudual prints?? I am unsure of its meaning?

Yes, it's the room where they put things in front of you that you can't just take from the shelves. In a library it would be a reading room, but here viewing room is more appropriate.

A bit of googling gives me the distinct impression this is something closely related to a library/museum reading room, but - in view of the information you've provided - aimed a bit more to the general public. You can't really 'read' an artwork in the usual sense, but 'consult' would hit the spot quite well, I think.
