Good one! How about the details scratch my eyes out? Thanks for the laugh. I, too, would go far,far away from the original contaext - what there is of it, phil - but also expand on the theme to keep with the flowery(thorny) tone.

@Phil - we're on a Mediterranean island. The details include a golf course, gardens, a cathedral and the sea in the distance. I confess that, like Coqueiro, I don't like the German phrasing either which is why I asked for the opinion of a native German speaker since to his/her ear it might sound different.

And I'm not sure this whole idea works in English. We don't even know what these "details" are - are we on the beach, on a mountain, in a big city?

I think you would be justified in producing a translation that looks almost nothing like the German, depending on the context, which we don't have. For example, "the view from the balcony is simply stunning" or "will keep you entertained for hours".

mich wirkt die deutsche Formulierung mehr als unglücklich. Gerne lasse ich meinen Blick von Interessantem einfangen, aber ich verbitte mir jedwedes "Verhaken" meiner Augen ;-)
