yes, that was my first thought, too, but there is really no indication what that person did at that time; it is just part of a list of travels she had taken in South america (here: Uruguay) and I can't be sure. Maybe I should just leave SAT, and indicate that I couldn't be sure about the intended meaning.

The only thing that comes to mind is the TV channel SAT1, short SAT. She could have worked in one of their foreign offices. And yes, the channel was named after "satellite" as it was one of the first satellite channels here.
