German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / railway | | German term or phrase: Bauwart | Not much context I'm afraid, it's a railway employee's work history and the phrase reads:
Beginn der Arbeit als Technologe/Bauwart in der Bahnmeisterei Berlin -Lichtenberg der Deutschen Reichsbahn
Began work for the German State Railway as a technologist/Bauwart in the Berlin - Lichtenberg Bahnmeisterei |

| | Platelayer /technician | Explanation: Platelayer is the correct answer here; but technician adds a bit of weight to it, especially if the person concerned has any sort of qualifications. Otherwise, lengthman and trackman are also correct, in descending order of respect. It is possible that German Reichsbahn "Bauwart" also had some responsibility for building structures, and if this is the case, I would probably lean out the window far enough to suggest calling him an "assistant building inspector and platelayer", after consulting with the customer. |

| Grading comment Yes, he's got tons of qualifications so I defer to your obvious wealth of knowledge about trains. Thanks a bunch. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
