Explanation:
it could even be the delivery docket because I know for a fact that before a client takes delivery of a consignment , he is expected to check for any immediately apparent damage and to enter a reference to this on the delivery docket BEFORE countersigning and giving the paper back to the driver. That way, he not only acknowledges receipt (the purpose of the exercise) but also indicates that he is concerned about the condition of the goods and will be making a claim.
Failure to take this step could make it hard to claim later.....

agree  buizybee: For European road transport the CMR is the leading document, where the proper receipt of the goods shall be signed from the receiver. For sea and air transport the Bill of Loading and Airwaybill (master or house) are in use, if not the packing slip.
