BTW I put this down as non-pro because it seems to be a word any native speaker knows and could explain even wihtout knowing an English equivalent. One of the google hits I looked at was a posting of gradeschool kids' homework, and one kid wrote "Ich wohne auf eine Wendeplatte. Viele Autos wenden sich dort..." or something like that. I'm leaning toward your answer at this point. Maybe the city is required to put in a few concrete slabs next to long driveways so that lost drivers can turn around and won't have to trespass. |
