Explanation: für die Reinigung von innerstädtischen Flächen und Straßenzügen
....inner-city surfaces and streets...
Strassenzug means 'streets of houses' (awkward, but correct), but since you have inner-city or urban in your sentence, I'd leave out the 'of houses' and simply say streets
Compact Oxford English Dictionary
highway
• noun 1 chiefly N. Amer. a main road. 2 (chiefly in official use) a public road.
Answer.com
high·way (hī'wā') pronunciation
n. (Abbr. hwy. or hgwy.)
A main public road, especially one connecting towns and cities.
Hence what first comes to my mind is not a small street or road perhaps only "lined with houses". In my context, I needed a real distinction for: inner-city surfaces, residential streets (Straßenzüge) and industrial areas. Based on the definition from Oxford...highway would for me in this instance, come under inner-city surfaces...also based on the remaining text I'm translating. Basically, there isn't always a definite right or wrong because there are normally at least a few choices. Then it comes down to the context and the translator's discretion. In this case mine. Thanks again for your input and contribution....this discussion will most certainly be helpful for in the future to other translators. :-)
Hi, Z.E.: it would be appreciated if the glossary entry were in the singular; otherwise someone later looking for "Strassenzug" won't find all the helpful discussions on this page...Many thanks...oh, and by the way, welcome to Proz...

Hi LittleBalu....have altered the glossary. As for the rule: "Sufficient time should be allowed for responses to be made. It is recommended that askers allow at least twenty-four (24) hours to pass before closing a question." For me, after reading this which I did beforehand, the 24 hrs is just recommended and not a must (or have I understood that incorrectly?) It was my opinion that the answers provided were sufficient and after over 12 hours I didn't think anything more useful would be added by anyone.
Hello Z.E., please wait 24 hours before closing your questions (see KudoZ rules). Also, please correct the glossary entry to "Straßenzüge". Thank you. :-)
I wrote in the end: inner-city surfaces and residential streets because the text called for a definite distinction.
The word "highway" also conjures up images of larger roads with larger volumes of traffic.
