German to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Software für Logistik
German term or phrase:Wechselkoffer
I realise there is already an entry for Wechselkoffer - swap body - in the Proz archive. My problem is that in the software I have 3 terms - Wechselbrücke, Wechselcontainer and Wechselkoffer and I need 3 different translations. I've been told that Wechselbrücke is the general umbrella term, a container is made of metal and Koffer might be made of plastic or have removable walls.
I thought Wechselbrücke - swap body
Wechselcontainer - swap container
but Wechselkoffer - ???
Please help!
Thanks!
Explanation: it's fun looking for this stuff because there is so much information out there, both in English and in German and in Dutch, but it is hell trying to link terms, especially when the definitions are rather muddled: http://www.wickedpedia.de/auto-und-verkehr/960/der-wechselko...
"Der Wechselkoffer wird auch als Wechselaufbau,Wechselbehälter, Wechselaufbaubrücke, Wechselpritschen und WAB bezeichnet."
Who'd have though this could be so complicated? A programmer in my company has told me that the translations will appear as text for icons and I can get around the problem by numbering them: Wechselbrücke = Swap body, Wechselcontainer = Swap body 2, Wechselkoffer = Swap body 3. So that's my immediate problem solved even if it does feel a bit like cheating from a translation point of view.
Thanks to everyone for their help. Too bad points can't be shared. I tend to agree with CMJ_Trans that there's often no distinction in English and everything is lumped under 'swap body'. However I'm giving some points to Vic as he's done the most work and 'swap box' seems like a potentail alternative...although a Google search brings up a lot of Girl Scout stuff! 2 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
I am struggling through the same twists and turns to get all these Koffers translated properly into Dutch. I don't have a translation at the ready for you, but this might provide some inspiration:

....at least you have a different name which on the face of it fits neatly in your above list :)
