line join Explanation: Better than nothing: see http://www.bav.admin.ch/glossar/index.html?lang=en&action=id... , changing "en" into "de" in the title of the page takes you back to a Flügelzug. And here's the idea conveyed in English (although it would have been nice if they'd actually used a proper term) "The Saturday running of this service is the week's only GNER southbound service from Leeds not to call at Wakefield Westgate. This service departs from Leeds and heads along the Selby line to join the East Coast Main Line at Hambleton." ( http://www.gner.railsaver.co.uk/gner.htm ) n.b. Have you had a look at IATE ? Maybe one of their terms is useful, rather depends on your context I suppose: Land transport, TRANSPORT [COM] Full entry DE Nebengruppe; Flügelzug EN secondary section TRANSPORT, Land transport [COM] Full entry DE Flügelzug; Kurswagengruppe EN set of through coaches -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 35 mins (2008-04-03 19:24:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- ah yes...forgot to copy the feeder train from IATE (although the Dutch version there indicates it only has to do with goods transport) |

coupled train units Explanation: Maybe you can show us a sentence or two to know in what context you need to use this word. Trains such as the ICE are built in "multiple unit trainsets" which are then "coupled" to form e.g. the double length train that separates somewhere along the journey. A multiple unit train is a single unit, unlike trains that are "locomotive driven" - there is a completely separate locomotive that can pull 1, 2, 3 or however many wagons of whatever type .... In the "multiple unit" trains there is no separate locomotive wagon - if the engine breaks down, for instance, the whole train goes to the repair yard.
