Explanation:
Route Knowledge – route information, such as braking distances, speed restrictions and signal positions (you can only drive on routes you have been assessed on, so you would continue to learn more routes once you qualify).

The competent authority for checking route knowledge lies with the infrastructure manager (IM) over which the train is requested to run. IM's responsibility is not engaged in drivers’ training for route knowledge.

Reference information:
Als Streckenkunde versteht man im Eisenbahnverkehr den Erwerb von Wissen über eine Eisenbahnstrecke (insbesondere deren Besonderheiten) durch Triebfahrzeugführer (Tf).

In Deutschland muss ein Tf gemäß den Regularien der Ril 408 (früher DV oder DS 408), für jede von ihm befahrene Bahnstrecke streckenkundig sein. Ohne Streckenkunde darf dieser nur gemäß folgenden Regeln eine Strecke befahren:
