Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Softwaresystem für Züge

grade resistance
Explanation:
I generally agree with the generic term Ken proposes, but I've found this definition:

Grade Resistance
Resistance that results from the energy you must put into a train to lift it vertically. The energy is returned without loss when the train comes back down again.

grade resistance

The force, due to gravity, that resists the movement of a vehicle up a
slope.

downhill force / force of gravity

Explanation:
This reminds me of when I was young and a friend explained the intelligent strategy for driving a VW Beetle: you go like hell downhill and coast uphill.

agree  Kim Metzger: Or downgrade force? http://www.woxikon.de/wort/hangabtriebskraft.php / This reminds me of my first bicycle ride downhill before I knew anything about brakes.

agree  waschbaer: Yes, downhill-slope force. - Disagree with force of gravity.
6 hrs

agree  David Moore: force of gravity - it's difficult to use a "downhill force / slope" when going uphill, but the "force of gravity" is ALWAYS at hand to help...

neutral  hazmatgerman: Although I support the general idea I'm not convinced that "gravity" will be proper here; downhill/uphill force IMO may fit better. Will wait for asker's reply to decide.
15 hrs

neutral  efreitag: I think that this generally works well here, but technically speaking, "force of gravity" is in no way the same as "Hangabtriebskraft": the latter is exerted in the direction of travel, while the first is pointing towards the center of gravity.

agree  hazmatgerman: Supported by ref. Provided asker does not want s.th. completely different this is it.

  -> Thanks!

disagree  David Moore: Sorry, Erich; I have tio disagree with this - if you are going downhill, there IS none...
16 hrs
-> Of course, there is no "resistance" (in the common meaning of the word) when you're going downhill, but the term "grade resistance" seems to be used this way (see my references). And of course there is a "downhill force" when going uphill.
