German term or phrase: Fangzange
A checklist for use when inspecting an automated storage/retrieval system. Under the heading 'Hubantrieb' it says 'Sicht-Prüfung / Funktions-Test Fangzange'

From my research, I presume that this grasps hold of products/pallets and am wondering about just calling this a 'catch element' but does anyone know a proper English term for it?

gripper (element)
Explanation:
If you want to use the "element", that's okay; the word on its own was used in a warehouse in which I worked in the 1990s.

Thanks David, just went with 'gripper' in the end - was of those nice 'does what it says on the tin' words :-)
