Bus/Financial - Transport / Transportation / Shipping
German term or phrase: europalastig
word comes from a sentence, out of a book/biography of a company in the shipping business.

"The normal business, before the integration of BAX in air freight, was very "europalastig"." -or- "Before the integration of BAX in air freight, the normal business was very "europalastig"."

Das normale Geschäft war vor der Integration von BAX in der Luftfracht sehr europalastig.

What the heck does EUROPALASTIG mean? Please help. On this one I'm clueless!

agree  Andrew Swift: Someone will be along presently to suggest 'Europe oriented'. Never a day goes by on KudoZ without that option.

agree  casper: In the asker's context, 'sehr europalastig' would then be 'largely focused upon Europe', right?

-> Thank you Jennifer. Yes, I would say so - or "mainly/predominantly focused".

neutral  British Diana: Actually I think the expression is not neutral but slightly negative
55 mins
-> I disagree with your interpretation of the German term - the context might give it a negative bias, but such context is not available.

agree  Eckhard Boehle

-> Danke schön, Eckhard. Frohes Schaffen.

agree  hazmatgerman: I prefer this as the source text (as much as we have) describes rather than evaluates. It might shift to one side or the other with more context but for now ...

  -> Danke, Steffen!

neutral  hazmatgerman: The source text does not say the business was conducted in Europe but concerned Europe.//Hallo Fr. Scherer: siehe oben Diskussion. Gruß.
5 hrs
-> Thanks, you might have a point here. But what if we leave "conducted" away? Because if a shipping company ships goods from/to Europe, one could probably say that much of its business "is in Europe"

agree  Jenny Streitparth: In my eyes, business was mainly in Europe (see my entry in discussion section). Hence, "most" would do it more justice.

(was) concentrated on Europe

Explanation:
In the light of the discussion and in view of the fact that the asker has not provided any more context, how about simply:

the company's business (was) concentrated on (possibly "in"???) Europe

The sentence with "was" uses "concentrated" as an adjective, otherwise "concentrated" is a verb in the past tense. IMO there is a very subtle difference between the two.
