Der Überspannungs-/ Bremszweig, mit dem Bremswiderstand und dem Stromsensor dieses Zweiges, dient erstens zur Umwandlung von Bremsenergie bei nicht aufnahmebereitem AC-Netz bzw. beim Bremsen im Dieselbetrieb, zweitens zur Verhinderung unzulässig hoher Überspannungen im Zwischenkreis, verursacht durch transiente Vorgänge wie Schleudern der Antriebsräder, *Bügelsprünge* usw. und drittens zur Entladung des Zwischenkreises beim Abrüstvorgang

agree  hazmatgerman: Got about 63 n.s. sources for the term, which makes it look like a safe bet. Plus looking for bügel in the discussion box ref would yield pantograph!
