Basically it's the opposite of your "durchgehende Achse" which is the standard design, i.e. for the "Losräder" there is one axle per wheel. Some sources say it's "idle wheel" but I doubt it.

Explanation: With "independent" meaning: not connected to the opposites wheel through an axle and thus supported by its own axle with its own bearing/suspension, and maybe even independently motorized.
Seems to be common (more than I originally thought) on trams nowadays.
"Running gear" may be more adequate than the classical "bogie", but this depends on the actual design.

This is contrasted with a beam axle, live axle or deDion axle system in which the wheels are linked–movement on one side affects the wheel on the other side.
