German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Inland shipping
German term or phrase:den Betriebe
Context:
"Diese Maßnahmen umfassen einerseits solche, die den Betriebe der Schiffe, deren Bau und deren Ausrüstung umfassen."
In a document about the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from inland shipping. It previously states that there are a wide range of measures open to inland shipping, by which it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping operations (Schiffsbetrieb), so I'm not sure if Betriebe is also meant to be shipping operations, while avoiding reptition of the term Schiffsbetrieb, or whether this is referring to shipping companies, or something else.
* Sentence or paragraph where the term occurs: See above
* Document type: Report on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
* Target audience: Inland navigation authorities/bureaucrats
* Country and dialect (source): German (Austrian)
* Country and dialect (target): British English
Explanation: This ought to read "den Betrieb", and should definitely be understood as "operation(s)". There is one E too many in your text ("den Betriebe"). Your sentence thus refers to "measures pertaining to ship(ping) operation(s) and ..." (no companies/businesses involved here).

Betrieb anbelangen."
Übersetzung: Betrieb = operation, nicht im Sinne von "shipping operations" (= Schiffbetriebe), sondern "the operation of a ship", daher: "the operation, construction, and outfitting of ships".
Und: "On the one hand...On the other hand" dürfen auch im Englischen zwei selbständige Sätze bilden.
Diese Maßnahmen umfassen einerseits solche [Maßnahmen], die ** den Betrieb ** der Schiffe, deren Bau und deren Ausrüstung umfassen [bzw. betreffen], als auch ... ??
Explanation: This ought to read "den Betrieb", and should definitely be understood as "operation(s)". There is one E too many in your text ("den Betriebe"). Your sentence thus refers to "measures pertaining to ship(ping) operation(s) and ..." (no companies/businesses involved here).

Danke schön!
Notes to answerer
Asker: @Johannes Gleim: In actual fact, this does indeed mean shipping as in navigation of the waterways (Schiffsbetrieb), not forwarding, dispatching, as I thought I stated clearly in the question. Sorry for any confusion!
