German term or phrase: Res

At the top of the invoice (for a car rental company) as 'Res' followed by a 9-digit number, it is under the customer number, invoice number, VAT No - could it just be 'Ref.'? But what is Res in full?

Explanation:
This is a wild guess but this number might be the "Reservierungsnummer" entered in the billing/invoicing system when the customer booked the vehicle.
