If there are several safety features, then which one is closing the door when it gets too hot? In any case, it sounds a little odd to say "the door ... is closed by the safety feature". Perhaps it would be OK if there was a single safety feature, but when it has already been made clear previously that there is more than one "Sicherheitstechnik", using the singular without specifying WHICH feature shuts the door simply won't work.

And that is why I don't want to use "feature" in the singular here.
