Explanation:
Der Buchfahrplan ist für Triebfahrzeugführer auf deutschen Eisenbahnen die ausführliche Fahranweisung für eine Bahnstrecke. Da diese zahlreiche Informationen hat, ist sie aus praktischen Gründen in Buchform ausgeführt. Neben der einzuhaltenden Geschwindigkeit auf jedem bezeichneten Strecknabschnitt sind die Ankunftzeiten, die Standorte der Signale, das zulässige Gewicht des Wagenzuges, Angaben zur Bremsstellung und anderes angegeben.
Für die Zukunft ist die elektronische Übermittlung der Fahranweisungen vorgesehen.
Der Buchfahrplan ist in diesem Sinne nicht zu verwechseln mit dem Kursbuch.

Just to take up the point that Kim rightly makes, the DB Buchfarhplan includes information (line speeds, signalling type, wagon recessing facilities, etc.) that is published in the UK in a document known as the \'Sectional Appendix to the Working Timetable\'

It may help to add a footnote for the benefit of English-speaking readers to explain that the Buchfarhplan is specific to Germany / Switzerland / Austria and that it includes information published in the United Kingdom in the Working Timetable and in the Sectional Appendix. Frankly, I would leave the term untranslated and simply add this note at the first point where it appears.
