However, assuming that it means a type of vehicle, please could someone clarify what type of vehicle it is. |

These are two possibilities; the second is a frame for the guidance of saws in a sawmill - a "carriage" in the same sense that your typewriter has a "carriage"; the other one is a genuine railway goods wagon. It may also be used to describe the type of slat-sided lorry which is sometimes used for transporting cattle, sheep and pigs. |
