Il est question des droits et des obligations des avocats.

Je n'arrive malheureusement pas à saisir le sens de cette tournure dans ce contexte.

"Der Rechtsanwalt ist jederzeit berechtigt, sich eine bestimmte Belohnung zu bedingen; er ist jedoch nicht berechtigt, eine ihm anvertraute Streitsache ganz oder teilweise **an sich zu lösen**".

trifft genau das hier gemeinte.

Der Anwalt darf nicht die Sache zur eigenen Sache machen, indem er sie dem Kunden quasi abkauft oder ihm nur einen Anteil zukommen lässt.
