Der Ausdruck entstammt wohl weniger einer Nähstube denn einem Boxring. Im Gegensatz zum Schneiderutensil ist die Gerade da ja immer wirklich direkt. Und "fadegrad" könnte man auch noch zu Fuss oder per Automobil in ein Hindernis geraten, was auch nicht eben wünschenswert wäre.
