German term or phrase: schamottiert

Buona sera a tutti,
sto traducendo un catalogo in cui a un certo punto si parla di
paste d'argilla "schamottiert". Per esempio:

Schamottierte Steinzeugmasse mit Spots, die ab ca. 1150¡C erscheinen.
oppure
Schulton terrakotta hell, schamottiert
e ancora:
Tonmasse, weiß brennend, fein schamottiert

Sul dizionario ho visto che Schamotte è l'argilla refrattaria e per schamottieren ho trovato "ricoprire/rivestire con argilla refrattaria", ma non avrebbe senso riferito all'argilla stessa...
Grazie per qualsiasi suggerimento
