secondo me è un riferimento all'ammontare delle piante rimanenti.
per questo forse in italiano non è necessario e basta "diradamento delle piante"

io tradurrei solo diradamento delle piante... per non correre rischi. Mi pare chiaro che si riferisce al diradamento, per cui... ma forse arriva qualcun'altro a dare man forte...
