Swirl - Tumble
E' il movimento, imposto, della miscela aria/benzina, o alla sola aria nel caso del diesel, attorno all'asse del cilindro. Contemporaneamente si cerca di dare alla miscela anche un moto perpendicolare all'asse dello swirl (il “tumble”), ciò aiuta la combustione e la rimozione di particelle residue. Lo swirl e il tumble si ottengono con una opportuna forma dei condotti di immissione, gruppo valvole e della camera di combustione
