Seit mehr als 150 Jahren werden Tasteninstrumente gleichschwebend gestimmt. Zu Haydns Zeit wurde für Tasteninstrumente hingegen eine Vielzahl an **Kompromisstimmungen** verwendet, bei denen die häufig gebrauchten Tonarten recht rein, die ungebräuchlichen hingegen hörbar unreiner waren, so dass die Akkorde in jeder Tonart eine unterschiedliche und damit charakteristische Klangqualität erhielten.
