Gemeinsam mit den Gemeinden in Mainz und Speyer erlangten die *SchUM-Städte* (Schpira, Warmaisa, Magenza) durch ihre Talmudhochschulen höchstes Ansehen. Um 1150 beschloss eine auch von 150 deutschen Rabbinern besuchte Versammlung in Troyes, dass die SchUM-Gemeinden das Richteramt für die deutschen Juden innehaben sollten.

Die jüdischen Gemeinden der drei rheinischen Städte Speyer, Worms und Mainz bildeten im 11. und 12. Jahrhundert den Bund der SCHUM-Städte (SCHUM aus den Anfangsbuchstaben ihrer hebräischen Namen: Sin für Spira, Waw für Warmaisa und Mem für Magenza).

ho cercato qualcosa in rete ma non credo che esista un corrispondente in it.; opterei quindi per qualcosa tipo "la federazione delle città SCHUM (dall'acronimo delle loro iniziali in ebraico)" ...
