È il commento alla performance di un atleta che nemmeno al secondo tentativo nel salto con gli sci è riuscito a salire almeno su un gradino del podio.

Explanation:
direi così, incluso Fliegen. Il "volare" è qui metaforicamente riferito al volare con gli sci, saltare molto in alto e quindi atterrare molto distanze in lunghezza.

cioè, uno che è così in tensione, non riesce veramente a volare...
