It has many uses. Because it is non-toxic to cells, it can be used to dilute substances. PBS is also used to keep the water concentration inside and outside of the cell balanced. If the water concentration is unbalanced, the cell risks bursting, or shrivelling up because of a phenomenon called osmosis.
