Es gibt Produkte, die hauptsächlich Risiken übertragen. Darunter sind namentlich die Kredit- und Schadensderivate zu verstehen. Das sind Finanzinstrumente, die von einem Ereignis als „Basiswert“ ausgehen. Dies kann z.B. ein Kreditereignis (wie der Ausfall eines Darlehens oder einer Anleihe) oder eine Naturkatastrophe sein. Mit solchen Derivaten kann jemand, der ein Risiko trägt, dieses auf andere Personen übertragen. Kreditderivate kommen als Swap, Option oder hybrides Finanzinstrument vor.
