Nos diste ejemplo más que suficiente,
elevándote desde un quehacer sin pausa,
para que, tocados de raíz,
comprendiéramos nuestra vida desde tu muerte.

Es el sentido: la persona no tiene paz, se mantiene en guardia (o custodia). Posible reformularlo para que suene mejor:

elevándote desde tu guardia intranquila/inquieta

elevándote desde la intranquilidad de tu guardia

SE me olvidó: MIra que en el último verso hay un SICH que no puedes olvidar. Es decir:

"en tu muerte se comprendiese nuestra vida"

o al revés, según la sonoridad de la estrofa completa. Por suerte "comprender" y "begreifen" tienen la misma polivalencia: "entender" y "estar contenido en"
