Der Pressling wird auch Grünling genannt. Die Herkunft des Namen stammt aus der Hartmetallherstellung. Das noch nicht gesinterte Wolframcarbid hat eine grünliche
Farbe. Nach dem Verdichten wird der Grünling ausgestoßen. Die Festigkeit des Grünlings (Grünfestigkeit) muss groß genug sein, die Handhabung bis zum Sintern zu überstehen.
