Various sources indicate that ΚΑΦΑΟ comes from a German acronym KV.

Επί παλαιών εποχών Σήμενς (sic) λέγοταν Kabelverzweiger (διαμοιραστής καλωδίων ή διακλαδωτής), αρχικά KV, στα γερμανικά Kα Φάου, "ελληνοποιημένο": Καφάο!
