It's probably 'radio', though the exact meaning is unclear (at/near the radio which is near the lub. oil hole??).

to the extent that the crankshaft of the ship's main engine was rendered useless. They are talking about mechanical defects. Nothing radioactive here. I'm afraid neither 'radio' nor 'radium' makes any sense to me here.

if it was a company, it would be starting with a capital P (Pάδιο). It talks about a thermic action/procedure (e.g. recharging) done on something, which had catasrophic consequences. ράδιο only has two meanings in Greek, either radium or radio (as in FM/AM) and because of the catastrophy part of it, I thought it would be radium. If this doesn't make sence at all (in context with the rest of the text not displayed here), then maybe it talks about a radio button???
