Να μια φαινομενικά εύκολη ερώτηση, που όμως επηρεάζεται τόσο πολύ από το περίφημο context.
1. Για ποια χώρα προορίζεται το κείμενο (π.χ. check ή cheque);
2. Σε τι είδους κείμενο εμφανίζεται αυτή η επιταγή; Μυθιστόρημα, νομικό, τραπεζικό; Υπάρχει μια απόσταση ανάμεσα σε πέτσινη επιταγή (rubber cheque), bad cheque και dishonoured cheque.
3. Σε ποια πρόταση απαντά; Πότε το λέμε, όταν την εκδίδει κάποιος ή όταν την επιστρέφει η τράπεζα; Ανάλογα με το κείμενο, μπορεί να απαιτείται και μια περιφραστική διατύπωση με το "(in)sufficient funds".
