Θεωρώ ότι το κεντρικό δελτίο ειδήσεων είναι ουσιαστικά η κορύφωση των μικρότερων δελτίων ειδήσεων που προβάλλονται κατά την διάρκεια της μέρας, τα οποία αποτελούν και την ραχοκοκαλιά πάνω στην οποία «ξεδιπλώνεται» το συνολικό πρόγραμμα του καναλιού. Δηλαδή, τα δελτία ειδήσεων συνδέουν το πρόγραμμα και του δίνουν συνοχή και μία λογική συνέχεια, με σταδιακή κορύφωση προς το κεντρικό δελτίο ειδήσεων. Χαρακτηριστικό της κορύφωσης αυτής είναι η συχνή προβολή διαφημιστικών μηνυμάτων τα οποία διαφημίζουν τι θα προβληθεί αργότερα στο κεντρικό δελτίο ειδήσεων και έτσι κρατούν τον τηλεθεατή σε εγρήγορση και τον αφήνουν όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερο στο ίδιο κανάλι. Αυτός είναι και ο ρόλος που παίζουν συχνά τα έκτακτα δελτία ειδήσεων που συνήθως έχουν μια μέση χρονική διάρκεια δύο λεπτών.
For what it's worth, what this suggested to me was the image of a mountain ridge (represented by ραχοκοκαλιά) draped in all its environment stuff, gradually rising until a giant peak emerges: hence my original suggestion. However, as Nick intimates, it's probably easier just to write it yourself. Who knows what the author has in mind. (Is this the same person who's fallen in love with the word κατεξοχήν? Αλίμονό μας!)

Or to see through the Greek to the English behind it: in this case a spine or backbone of news broadcasts throughout the day culminating in the flagship evening news (or am I missing something here?)
Frankly, translating this sort of Greek is a self-defeating exercise. First, you need to rewrite it into something more coherent, then you translate it. Γιατί γράφω αγγλικά; :)
As I said in the note with my original answer, the whole thing has to fit together. So the choice in one case will affect the choice in the other. Even though the metaphor is a bit "mixed" in the original text.
Looking at the context again I see the writer has used κορύφωση several times, in (at least) two different senses. The second meaning could be translated as 'build-up'. So it really depends which κορύφωση you're asking about.
