agree  Epameinondas Soufleros: Προφανώς αυτό έχει κατά νου ο συγγραφέας, αν και υπάρχει διάκριση μεταξύ "text type" και "genre", την οποία υποστηρίζω και βάσει της οποίας "text type"="κειμενικό είδος" και "genre"="κειμενικό γένος".

Explanation:
If κειμενικό είδος means e.g. news articles, formal letters, book reviews, etc, then I would just use the word type (i.e. "to classify the texts they have collected according to type")
