Η τεχνολογική εξέλιξη των τελευταίων χρόνων έδωσε τη δυνατότητα στους χειρουργούς να κάνουν μικρότερες τομές για τις εγχειρήσεις τους ώστε οι ασθενείς μετεγχειρητικά να παραμένουν λίγες μόνον ώρες στο νοσοκομείο και να επιστρέφουν στο σπίτι τους την ίδια ημέρα. Τέτοιου τύπου επεμβάσεις είναι γνωστές ως ***χειρουργική εξωτερικού ιατρείου*** ή χειρουργική μιας ημέρας.

Αναρωτιέμαι εάν υπάρχει συγκεκριμένος όρος στα αγγλικά, διότι σε ελληνικές πηγές δε βρήκα κάτι και εάν έχει κυρολεκτική σημασία ή απλώς χαρακτηρίζει τον τύπο εγχείρισης.

Ήμουν μεταξύ του outpatients και ambulatory, αλλά ο λόγος που τελικά επέλεξα το δεύτερο είναι επειδή στο κείμενό μου υπήρχε και ο όρος "Μονάδα χειρουργικής εξωτερικού ιατρείου" που βρήκα ως Ambulatory surgery center (An ambulatory surgery center can also known as outpatient surgery centers or same day surgery centers. An ambulatory surgery center (ASC) is a health care facility that specializes in providing surgery, pain management and certain diagnostic (e.g., colonoscopy) services in an outpatient setting.-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambulatory_surgery_center). Σ' ευχαριστώ πολύ Νάντια! Αν και σημαίνουν το ίδιο ουσιαστικά και τα δύο (εξωτερικού ιατρείου/μιας ημέρας), ψάχνω διαφορετική απόδοση και την πιο διαδεδομένη για να τα διαχωρίσω, όπως στο πρωτότυπο. So far, σας ευχαριστώ πολύ όλους...

Το "χειρουργική μιας ημέρας" το βρήκα κι εγώ "same-day surgery (SDS)"/"One-day surgery (ODS)". Είναι συνώνυμα με το "χειρουργική εξωτερικού ιατρείου" και δεν υπάρχει αντίστοιχο ακρωνύμιο... Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
