Greek term or phrase: αφαίμαξη των εισοδημάτων

I'm looking for a "literal" way to translate this phrase. It's part of a sentence that uses law and finance vocabulary ("... η δεύτερη άποψη έχει ως έρεισμα πως η ανακούφιση των αδυνάτων δεν επιτυγχάνεται από την αφαίμαξη των εισοδημάτων των ευπόρων κοινωνικών τάξεων, τα οποία αποκτήθηκαν κατά νόμιμο και διαφανή τρόπο, αλλά από εκείνους τους ηθικά ανάλγητους και επικίνδυνους εγκληματίες οι οποίοι προτίμησαν αν θυσιάσουν στον βωμό της απληστίας και του εύκολου πλουτισμού κάθε ανθρώπινο ιδανικό και κάθε έννοια δικαιοσύνης....") but must be translated in a literal way as the whole text is literal and the writing style very lyrical.

I'm stuck with "...dragging blood out of..." so, any suggestion would be useful

I've just realised that the much simpler term 'bleeding the merchant classes' is probably much better.
