Knob = Nakoocho or Door or Sojo 11:01 Apr 23, 2009
I do possess Gala's dictionary. But I have noted that, there are several instances, where the said dictionary provides misleading terms. This is one instance. As a matter of fact, whenever in doubtabout the terms given by Gala's Dictionary, I usually refer to "Brihad Gujarati Kosh" published by University Granth Nirman Board, Gujarat State, which is considered authentic by the Gujarati literary community. As I said earlier, the word KNOB does not mean Nakucho (this means a metal hook, on which a chain attached to a door is slipped to lock the door. This system has been replaced by bolt in the houses.) Knob is affixed on a door (Kamaad), hence, a Kamaad cannot be called a Knob. Coming to to the last term "Sojo", which essentially means "Swelling" and if one translates "knob on a door" as "Swelling on a door" would be foolishness. Although, knob means, "Gattho" or a "protrusion" cannot be construed as "Swelling". I am sure, I am making the things clear. I have been able to provide this explanation depending upon the "Brihad Gujarati Kosh" published by University Granth Nirman Board, Gujarat State, and not because I am highly intelligent.
