Explanation:
Good question. I personally do not think that there is 'one' right answer. Contractual engagement is certainly one option. In my experience this is one of those words which - for translation in to English - depends greatly on context. In my vieew - depending on context - it could mean anything from 'contractual engagement' to 'entering into a contract' to - even - 'binding'. If I had no context - then I would go with Judith's option

I'm with Judith on this. I usually use 'engagement', although sometimes it's clearly meant that they entered into a contract.
