Hebrew to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Law (general)
Hebrew term or phrase:עורך דין
But hold on before you jump:...
I need to know the difference between all the English terms (lawyer, advocate, attorney) as they refer to an Israeli עורך דין (with a certificate from the bar).
Explanation: A lawyer is a person with a degree in law
In the UK lawyers are divided into two main categories
1. Solicitor - one who offers legal advice to clients and may present petitions to the lower courts but is not a member of the bar (British)
2. Barrister - is a lawyer who has passed the bar examnitions and is qualified to represent client in a court.
A solicitor will refer his own clients to barristers appropriate barristers depending on teh type of litigation required.
Yes, I think the target audience needs to be considered.
Many Israeli lawyers - מוישה איציק, עו"ד - style themselves Moishe Itzik, Adv. (or Advocate). I hate this, although I have sometimes been instructed to translate it like that.
Hi,
This refers to the signature of the עורך דין at the end of a תמצית רישום in a company report. Should an Israeli עורך דין (or the translator) give him/herself a different title depending whom s/he's addressing (UK vs. US)?

The updates to the menu were made to make the site easy and more intuitive for visitors. Obviously, like any change, this may take a few days to get used to.
The dropdown menus have been divided into two-dimensional panels with similar items grouped together under headings. This eliminates scrolling for those with smaller screens, and also improves readability.
Mouseover your name at the top of the screen. Here you will find information about your account, your email settings, and more. The "My ProZ.com" menu was moved up here to simplify the main navigation, and to keep all of this type of information together.
