Since no man knows his appointed time
Explanation:
It's a fancy way of saying "since no one knows when he will die" - פקודה here means, when he will be called (or visited by the Angel of Death). The actual term ("his appointed time") may be modified, e.g. "the time of his death" or "the hour of his passing".

agree  Frank Mayers: I agree with Perry. As death (like sex) is a taboo subject we tend to use euphimisms or flowery language. Therefore there may be untold possible translations and Perry's suggestions fit the bill very nicely.

agree  Ty Kendall: I like any usage where the old English verb ending -eth is used, it's a pity it lost out to -s suffix.
